One of the 59 people killed in the Las Vegas massacre on October 1st was Christopher Roybal, 28, was a veteran who served in Afghanistan, according to The Associated Press.

The AP reported that he worked at Crunch Fitness gyms in Corona and Riverside, California, before he moved to Colorado to help open franchises.

Company founder David Harman said Roybal had been coping with the death of a friend who was killed by an improvised explosive device. Roybal adopted his friend’s bomb-sniffing dog, who later died of old age.

Roybal recently wrote on Facebook about getting shot at in Afghanistan, the AP reported.

“What’s it like to be shot at?” he wrote. “It’s a nightmare no amount of drugs, no amount of therapy and no amount of drunk talks with your war veteran buddies will ever be able to escape. Cheers boys.”
